Train times Bangkok - Singapore
The Bangkok to Penang run will take you from Butterworth (Penang) to Hat Yai and Bangkok without a change of trains. There are also connecting services to or from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. The train, which offers only first- and second-class air con tickets operates every day & it pays to book as they only have 3 carriages. If coming to Thailand you can buy a ticket at the Thai side border to make sure you have ongoing seats if travelling North. Cost for 2nd class air to Bangkok from Butterworth is 970 ringit. Approx 10 ringit =100 baht. Check on holiday periods in Malaysia to make sure you can obtain a seat.

Train 1 & 2:  RAKYAT EXPRESS.  Daily.  1st & 2nd class seats, air-conditioned.  Trolley refreshment service.

Train 5 & 6:  EXPRESS SINARAN SELETAN.  Daily.  1st & 2nd class seats, air-con.

 

 

Train 11 & 12  EXPRESS:  Daily. de luxe sleeping-car,1- or 2-berth rooms, en-suite shower / WC, a 1st class sleeping-car with 2-berth rooms with washbasin, 2nd class (open-plan) sleeping-cars, and 2nd & 3rd class seats cars.  All cars air-con. 

 

 

Train 7 & 8:  EXPRESS LANGKAWI:  Daily.  2nd class seats car and 2nd class air-con sleeping-car (Malaysian) between  Kuala Lumpur and Hat Yai.  Has 1st and 2nd class sleeping-cars and 2nd & 3rd class seats cars (all air-con) between Kuala Lumpur and Butterworth. 

 

 

Train 32 & 33:  Runs on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays only.  2nd and 3rd class only.  Air-con.

 

 

Train 35 & 36: 'INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS' :  Daily.  The 'International Express' (called 'Ekspress Antarabangsa') is air-conditioned 2nd class sleepers between Butterworth and Bangkok.  Between Hat Yai and Bangkok, it has a restaurant car, 1st class sleeping-car and additional 2nd class sleepers. You can buy ongoing tickets at the border crossing yo either Malaysia or Thailand. Also change your money if going to Penang as you will need 6 ringit for the ferry crossing & do not change money at the ferry terminal. There is an Indian money changer over the road bridge on the Penang side. 

      Check your foreign currency exchange rates against the Thai Baht with Bangkok Bank.
