Effective April 1 2007.

Visa exemptions, commonly referred to as “visas on arrival”, allow tourists from certain countries who arrive at the border without a visa to have permits-to-stay,  for a period of 30 days, issued by Immigration officials.
People who enter Thailand on a ‘visa exemption’ are permitted can stay only 90 days in a six-month period,
From April 1, we now count only the days the foreigner has stayed in Thailand – and foreigners are now allowed to stay past the 180-day period,”

The number of consecutive visa exemptions allowed is no longer limited to three. Those who choose to enter on multiple visa exemptions that it is up to the discretion of the Immigration officer how many days to grant the new arrival, provided it is 30 days or fewer. The 90-day rule does not affect people who have been issued a visa from a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate overseas.

Parents bringing children to Thailand to attend school, can apply for non-immigrant ED visas for their children at any Royal Thai Embassy outside Thailand. Parents can apply for a non-immigrant O visas for themselves so they can enter the country and care for their children here, and then they can apply for permits to stay at the Immigration office after entering the country. Many international schools in Thailand help parents prepare applications for permits to stay & children under 14 years old are not fined for an overstay.

You get an "under consideration for X amount of days" stamp endorsement, another one when you return (after crossing into Mynamar or Laos) after X amount of days (no fee) and finally a "must leave country in X amount of days" endorsement. This gives you approximately 30 days more.  To enter Laos you can get a visa at the border towns of Chiang Khong or Nong Khai. You can also obtain a visa in Chiang Mai. COMPANY CHECKS: Chiangmai commercial registration is presently looking closely at companies. If you have a company make sure you have the workers and not just nominees as you will have to explain where and what they are each doing in your company. Remember even playing a guitar in a  bar for fun is working? and you will be jailed, bailed around 65,000 baht then deported after the fine. We recommend you do not use a company just to buy a house only, as under the Thai law you must conduct a business as well as thats basically what a company is for.
